Pilates was started by Joseph Pilates in the 1920's as a method of rehabilitating prisoners of war. Utilizing the springs in the hospital beds, Joseph Pilates taught bed ridden prisoners to exercise. It became clear that his method could provide all different types of people with increased core strength, flexibility and body awareness. Joesph Pilates and his wife, Clara taught Pilates in their New York City studio until his death in 1967. His method was kept alive by a small group of his devoted students. The trend of Pilates grew and in the late 90s became very popular in Hollywood and with many professional athletes. Today 10 million people practice Pilates.
Jessica teaches the STOTT PILATES method. Stott Pilates is a contemporary approach to the original exercises created by Joseph Pilates. Co-founders Moira and Lindsay Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent more than two decades refining the STOTT PILATES method of exercise and equipment. The refined method resulted in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making STOTT PILATES one of the safest and most effective methods available. It is used by rehab and prenatal clients, athletes, celebrities and everyone in between. STOTT PILATES is recognized as The Professional's Choice by studios, fitness facilities, and fitness professionals.
